Rockstar has announced that
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
is headed to iOS and Android. The game will be playable on "a wide
range of iOS and Android devices" later this fall and comes as part of
Vice City’s 10th anniversary celebration this month.
According to Rockstar, Vice City "brings the full experience to
mobile devices, featuring native high-resolution graphics and several
enhancements unique to the iOS and Android platforms." Rockstar promises
that additional 10th anniversary celebrations will follow, including a
new trailer, never-before-seen artwork and "a limited run of collectible
promotional items" on the
Rockstar Games Warehouse.
"Grand Theft Auto: Vice City gave players the freedom of a massive
open world in one of the most iconic and vibrant settings ever realized
in a game," said Rockstar founder Sam Houser. "It was a defining moment
in the series and we're delighted to be celebrating its 10th anniversary
this year with a stunning, updated version for phones and tablets."
The announcement echoes last year’s
iOS release of Grand Theft Auto III
and comes just days before October 29th, which will mark exactly 10
years since Vice City’s 2002 debut on PlayStation 2. Earlier this year,
Vice City was also
rated for PlayStation 3, though that version has yet to materialize.
